ANN ARBOR, MI -- Halloween enthusiasts can get their spook on this weekend at a craft sale focused on all things haunted.

The Halfway to Halloween Vendor and Craft Show will be held on Saturday, May 21, at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Road in Ann Arbor. The event will feature more than 140 vendors selling products like spooky lawn ornaments, jewelry, costume pieces and animatronics.

A live glass blower, a planner for goth-themed weddings and costumed actors will also be on site.

“We have a wide array of things,” said coordinator Alice Reed. “We have everything from jewelry made from inspect specimens to bone to wires to crystals. We have a tarot card reader. We have people who make props. …We have a guy who carves whiskey barrels into jack-o’-lanterns.”

The show has more than tripled in size since its debut in 2021, where it saw just 39 vendors. This year’s vendors have been handpicked and are primarily local artists, with the furthest coming from just Ohio.

“I’ve always been obsessed with Halloween,” said coordinator Joel Spencer. “I worked at a number of haunted houses over the years. There’s hardly any Halloween events, though, in between. (I thought) let’s incorporate my love for Halloween into an event, combine the two and see what happens.”

Two haunted houses will also be onsite, with one giving makeup demonstrations and the other bringing costumed actors. Attendees are also encouraged to wear their own costumes.

Artists at the show include Vampqueen’s Vault, which sells embroidered patches; Unearthed Remains, a local taxidermist; and Scream Prints, which sells horror-themed posters. Food trucks will also be available.

The event strives to be an affordable solution for Halloween enthusiasts who are often priced out of larger craft shows, Reed said.

“While we can appreciate if you have the ability to put a $3,000 prop in your front yard, we also understand that not everybody has that ability,” Reed said. “…We want people who have that interest to be able to decorate or express themselves in the way that they want without breaking their bank account.”

The Halfway to Halloween Vendor and Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Road in Ann Arbor. The event is free to attend.

While the event is family-friendly, parents of young children are encouraged to remember costumed actors and attendees will be on site.
